6 Products for Beautiful Hair
Posted by abhinandapaul in beauty, Fashion, Health, Lifestyle, Reading Resources on August 9, 2012
The female tress has been the poet’s muse since time immemorial. Alexander Pope’s ‘The Rape of the Lock’ is a mock-epic of five long cantos lamenting the impeachment of Belinda’s beautiful locks. But due to the polluted atmosphere we live in and the stressful lives that we lead, the poets’ inspiration is on the verge of losing its charm. So sit up ladies, it’s time we took action to preserve our beautiful tresses. Here’s a list of products that will help you in your quest.
Brush Massager
In the course of the day, a lot of dirt particles accumulate on our scalp which may cause infection. Brushing hair regularly not only removes the dirt considerably but also promotes hair growth by increasing blood circulation in the scalp. A brush and massager combo is therefore the first product on your list.
Hair Protein Cream
Protein creams nourish hair with natural proteins generally like wheat germ and chickpea. The main function of protein cream is to restore hair’s lost shine and strengthen hair roots to prevent hair fall. With the amount of stress and pressure we take today, trust me, you’ll need it.
Hair Oil
Application of hair oil seals the cuticles of hair, imparts great shine and makes hair soft and touchable. A hot oil treatment with carrier oils like coconut and almond is a must at least once a week.
Mild Gentle Shampoo
Only part of the dirt collected on the head is removed by brushing. For the other more stubborn part you have to wash your hair with shampoo. A mild gentle shampoo with inbuilt moisturiser should be used everyday to keep your hair squeaky clean. The inbuilt moisturiser will protect your hair from feeling dry.
Conditioner or Softener
Even if your shampoo has inbuilt moisturiser, using a good conditioner or hair softener will keep your hair soft and tangle free. Apply to the lower end of your hair, leave on for ten whole minutes and then wash off. NEVER apply conditioner to your scalp or your hair will loose its bounce.
Frizz control serum
Use a frizz control serum to keep your hair frizz free. Use a deep cleansing shampoo once a week to avoid building up.
This is our list of six products that will give you beautiful hair, undoubtedly. If you’ve got more tips, feel free to share.
How To Delay Ageing Process
Posted by abhinandapaul in beauty, Health, Lifestyle, Resources on August 8, 2012
Everything on earth is transient, and so is our youth. As time passes our youthful naivety gets replaced by experienced maturity. The first reflection of this metamorphosis happens on our skin, and then comes the ageing woes. Well, ageing is a natural process and man has not enough power yet to stop it. However, there’s something that man has –the power to delay. Read on to find out…
Cigarette doesn’t have a taste, it’s just plain airy fumes of burnt tobacco and doesn’t even smell nice and it harms your lungs and causes cancer. If all these reasons have not been enough to make you quit smoking, hopefully this will –smoking accelerates ageing by encouraging destruction of collagen. So smokers, you will age faster if you don’t stop now.
Protection from Sun
Getting sun tanned causes photo-ageing. Protecting your skin from the sun is the best tip for prevention from ageing. Include it in your daily routine to apply a moisturizer with sunscreen every time you go out in the sun. If you like tanned skin then you can always fake it with body bronzers.
Eat Properly
Eat foods rich in vitamin C and E as they contribute to younger-looking skin by restoring collagen. Have lots of fresh vegetables, fruits and whole grains as these ingredients provide antioxidant protection within the body.
Green Tea
Green tea is the numero uno source of anti-oxidants. According to recent research, sufficient amount of green tea in a day increases your resistance to heart disease and speeds up your metabolism. So have three or four cups everyday.
Use a night cream
While you’re fast asleep, your skin works hard. At night the cell’s power to regenerate is at its peak. To provide them with some external aid, application of night cream is important.
Exercise
An entire page can be written on why one should exercise, but we’ll keep it as precise as possible. Exercise increases your energy level, builds muscle mass, helps prevent high blood pressure and reduces stress. What’s more, it increases blood flow to your skin which is of paramount significance if you wish to have lively skin.
Sleep Properly
When you sleep your body releases hormones that stimulate cell turnover. Stress on the other hand accelerates ageing process. So get proper sleep everyday.
Drink water
Without sufficient water your skin will feel dehydrated and essential anti-ageing nutrients will not be delivered to the system properly. Drink at least ten glasses of water everyday.
Since we all have to age someday day, why not do it gracefully with fresh, lively skin?
Maintaining The Right Work-Life Balance

Wake up at 6, go to work by 10, stay in office till 9, get home and go to sleep. Though it may sound slightly exaggerated, we can’t deny that our lives have been reduced to the monotony of a rat race. As much as we may hate to admit it, it’s a material world and we are all material people. Don’t agree? When was the last time you actually sat watching it rain outside?

Prioritize
Figure out which things are the most important to you in life. Often times we think the most urgent things are the most important ones, but it’s not so. After you have set your priorities, try devoting more time to those things that are important to you.
Time Management– Every Day
Plan out your day the night before, allotting specific slots to all the things that you need to do, which includes spending time with your family as well as pampering yourself a bit.
Time Management- Long Term
Make an Excel spreadsheet for yourself recording all the things you have promised to do in a few months’ time. This includes going for a vacation, going to your child’s function, and other family engagements. This way you’ll know which days you will be unavailable for work and manage your work accordingly.
Exercise
Exercise is not only good for your body but also for your mind. Even a 15 minutes jog every morning will energize you and rejuvenate you from the previous day’s exertions.
Me Time
Apart from all this, take out some time for something that you love to do, like a hobby. If you love to paint then take out some time for it everyday. It’ll help clear your mind and refresh you.
Have realistic goals
You are a human being and not even the most annoying boss in the world would expect you to do superhuman tasks. So don’t put unnecessary pressure on yourself. When you do your work, do it religiously and when you don’t, well do that religiously too.
Take a break
Sometimes when there’s too much of pressure, we all experience ‘mental block’. When this happens, take a break, have some coffee or some chocolate. Or just meditate or listen to some relaxing music or simply stare blankly out of the window for sometime. The same advice counts for anxiety and tension.
Why are you working anyway? To give a happy life to yourself and your family. Now if you stay so immersed in work and never make time for yourself or the relationships you have nurtured all life, the entire purpose will stand defeated. In our world where time is always a precious commodity, probably the perfect work-life-balance is not even possible to achieve. But you can at least set your priorities right and devote time accordingly. After all, it is a short life we have got.
Fairness Fetish In India

Try to list mentally the various fairness creams that are available in the Indian market. Practically each company has one under their brand name. That’s where the country’s fairness fetish has reached today!
The idea of dark skinned people being somewhat inferior had been around since the Vedic Age. The colonization of India by fair complexioned invaders from the west drove this idea deep into the minds of people. Deep enough that even after the British left, this misconception remained and continued to build.
Supermodel Lakshmi Menon who has a typical Bangalorean dark complexion recalls that when she was in India, people would never want to hire her because of her dark skin. Most of the fairness cream advertisements depict a dark complexioned girl who is either not getting a good job or is not being able to find a groom because of her dark skin. There’s even an unbelievably baseless notion that darker people have dark intentions while fairer people have fair intentions!
The Science Behind Complexion
For Heaven’s sake, complexion has nothing to do with your deeper intentions being reflected on your skin. It is plain biology. The pigment Melanin is responsible for lightness or darkness of skin. This pigment protects the skin from harmful ultraviolet rays and is activated by the Sun. This is why people in warmer places have dark skin. Besides sometimes, complexion is hereditary.
A Bit Of Truth
Fairness creams DO NOT make you fair. Most of the times they are simple sun blocks which inhibit the production of melanin to prevent further darkening. In addition to that, fairness creams often use chemicals like mercury and hydroquinone which are not only harmful but also result in further darkening of skin and premature aging.
Not all the scenario is this deplorable though. In April 2010, Vogue India made a bold move by featuring five dark skinned models on its cover. Anil Chopra, CEO of Lakme, said on Indian fashion week, “More than half the girls are on the duskier side. I sit in on the judging panel every year and not once have I heard a comment about skin colour.” But obviously,India has still a long way to go when it comes to overcoming fairness fetish.
Dear all, beauty is only skin deep and your complexion determines nothing. If the world is ready to look beyond your dusky skin colour, why aren’t you?
